A jadeite rough stone is sectioned in half, exposing the beautiful colors inside. After examining the stone surface, an experienced jade-cutter plans out how the stone is to be cut to avoid flaws while maximizing the colors of cut pieces.

The shapes of cut pieces are then further examined to ensure the finish product is cut in a way to enhance the translucency of the jade.

The jade is then cut on a water wheel.
